The story behind our straws is a lovely one, so we thought we would share it with you….

Jungle Straws is a socially responsible company who manufacture beautiful bamboo drinking straws and earth-friendly products. Since their inception, their purpose has been to support, inspire and empower individuals and businesses of all kinds to make the switch to reusable and sustainable alternatives in order to reduce the devastating effects that plastic pollution is having on the planet.

Chris and Jamie, the co-founders of Jungle Straws, met by chance in 2016 whilst travelling through Mexico. Two Brits with a mutual passion for travel, they quickly became friends and bonded over their love for exploration and their shared goal to make a positive difference in the world.

Their ethos epitomises the company values which is why they have proudly overseen all aspects of their manufacturing and supply chain operations in person, relocating to the source of the raw materials in Vietnam in order to develop ethical relationships with the artisans and farms of whom they work with.

Having travelled to a combined total of over 70 countries, they had each witnessed first-hand the damage caused by single use plastic across the globe. Their vision was to create an ethical and sustainable business that would make it easy for others to reduce their plastic use and to be part of the wider movement towards a plastic-free future.

Chris and Jamie work closely with their Vietnamese manufactures and designers to capture the essence of their craft and to ensure the entire business is built on ethics, equality and transparency. Jungle Straws is proud to be a zero waste company, with a growing range of products that focus on style, sustainability and practicality, helping to change habits and make a positive difference, one sip at a time.

When meeting bamboo farmers on their quest to find the very best supplier for their bamboo straws, they had a few specific goals in mind. Firstly, they wanted to find the very best bamboo, 100% organic and completely free from chemicals throughout the entire production process. The bamboo used for Jungle Straws grows naturally and without the need for harmful fertilisers or pesticides, therefore growing it doesn’t contribute to unwelcome chemicals entering ground-water.

It was also important to them too, that they found passionate and dedicated people that they could work alongside in order to create fair and special relationships that reflect the vision of the company. Jungle Straws has a great sense of pride in what it does. They wanted this ethos to be the main driving force behind everyday actions, from the supply chain upwards.

Each Jungle Straws is made from a single piece of organic bamboo which is sourced from wild plantations deep in the countryside of the Vietnamese province of Thanh Hoa.

The bamboo is cut and left to firm up and dry naturally in the sun for a few days before being re-located to the farm where it is cut down to size and then crafted into smaller, smoother pieces.

After the stalk has been cut, it then gets sanded, filed and etched to give it a smooth and natural finish, perfect for slurping your favourite drinks from! The straws are then left to dry on large hessian rugs in the baking hot Vietnamese sunshine for up to one week after being crafted. This ensures that the straws turn a beautiful golden yellow and acquire that sun-kissed natural look.

The company has experienced international growth due to its dedication in empowering businesses to take a stand against plastic waste. Their bamboo straws are stocked in over 20 countries worldwide, and they have proudly partnered alongside many respectable organisations including National Geographic, Penguin Random House, and The British Embassy.
